When I moved into my new home I was so excited, for the first time I had a laundry room. Even though there wasn’t much space, I couldn’t wait to decorate and organise everything. Having a dedicated room for laundry and all my cleaning supplies was a space that I wanted to not only be organised but look aesthetically pleasing too.

1. create a folding station

Having a dedicate place to fold your laundry helps to stay organised. One of my pet hates of doing laundry is folding the washing! I know it sounds silly, but finding a space that’s clutter free can be frustrating. However, since I have created a dedicated folding area, I find it so much easier.
2. install cupboards

Not everyone has the space in their laundry room, but if you can installing cupboards is the best way to store everything and it keeps it out of sight. If you want to go the extra mile, I recommend getting some baskets to keep everything in to keep it organised and tidy.
3. Use a hamper
A hamper will keep all your dirty washing in one place and out of sight. It’s not practical to think all your washing will be done at once. I know some days I have towels, sheets and clothes, There is absolutely no chance of getting everything washed, I put everything into a dirty a laundry basket to keep the laundry room tidy while it waiting in the queue.
4. stack your washer dryer

If you have a front loading washing machine, stacking your appliances is a great space saving idea. Before stacking your machine check that your particular machine is stackable by consulting with your retailer or checking your manual. To make it easier to stack, you can purchase a stacking kit. If your buying a new washer and dryer, there are combos available which already come stacked.
5. mount your ironing board
An ironing board can take up valuable space and look unsightly. Something that was a game changer to me was a mounted ironing board. It’s so easy to pull down when you want to use it. If you don’t want to get a wall mounted ironing board keep your free standing one out of the way when it’s not in use, fold it up and tuck it away.
6. add a built in drying rack

From time to time your going to want somewhere to hang dry different garments to dry. Adding a tension pole is a convenient and easy way to incorporate a place to hang washing. Simply place a tension between two cabinets and you have a drying rack that is not only affordable but space saving.
7. Store clothes pegs properly
Tired of searching for your clothes pegs? One thing I could be without is a peg bag, I know it sounds lame but it keeps them all in one place and stops me loosing them.
8. incorporate shelves

Shelving can be a game changer if you are short on space. Making use of vertical space is key to keeping your laundry room tidy and organised. For storing smaller items I recommend putting them into containers to keep them together. I love how pretty everything looks after adding a few plants and baskets.
9. foldable laundry baskets
Does anyone else get tired of walking into their laundry room to empty laundry baskets on the floor because there is no where else to store them? Using foldable laundry baskets is the answer. They fold flat when not in use making to easier to store out of sight.
10. install a sink

If you have the space, having a sink installed will streamline your hand washing as it will keep everything in one place. I’m obsessed with how cute this sink looks! I would love to have a sink in my laundry room.
11. use over the door storage
Maximising the space you have is vital when it comes to organising a small laundry room. Using over the door hanging storage is a game changer! You can store anything from clean towels to cleaning supplies.
12. hang cleaning tools

Something that has been really useful when it comes to get organised has been hanging my cleaning tools. Having a dedicated space for dustpans, mops and brooms keeps them accessible and organised.
13. add hooks
Hooks are so underrated when it comes to space saving ideas. They come in so handy when you want to organise your laundry room especially if you want to maximise your vertical space.
14. decant laundry products

If your wanting to make your laundry room aesthetically pleasing, decant all cleaning products into jars or containers. I love how pretty these jars look to store everything. It’s also a great way to save space as cleaning products come in such big boxes or packaging.

Another option for storing pegs, cleaning supplies and laundry product is keeping them in wicker baskets. They will keep everything neat and in one place.

One of my favourite ways to add some rustic charm when decorating is to use natural wood. Either by hanging driftwood selves for a coastal theme design or a natural wood shelving unit helps to maximise the space you have to incorporate a farmhouse style design.

Just like any other room in your home, decorating with a bold print wallpaper is a great way to add some personality to your laundry room. There are so many beautiful prints it can be hard to choose! When deciding which print to go for, pick a colour scheme and keep it cohesive with the rest of the laundry room by adding a rug in similar tones, or add a mirror to reflect the light making your space feel larger.

Your laundry room doesn’t have to be boring, to add a pop of colour and bring some life into your space choose a few plants. There are so many ways to incorporate plants, place a couple of plants on floating shelves is perfect because they won’t take up any of your floor space. Another way to add some plants if you have the space is to add a decorative pot to display them.

Utilising vertical spaces will be your best friend when it comes to maximising small spaces. Mounting your drying rack can be a great space saver. If you feel you need more drying space consider using a retractable drying rack, which you can fold away when not in use.
