1. declutter

The first step to organising your bedside tale is to take everything out. It much easier to see what you have when you lay everything out. Also by getting everything out you can give your nightstand a wipe over to remove any dust or cup stains, once everything is out throw away anything that you don’t need.

Books – If you’re like me, you have multiple books on the go at once. After a while you have a pile of books on your bedside table. A pro tip is to put the books that your reading but no currently on your bookshelf at one end and work your way along. It can be overwhelming to have a pile of books beside your bed and you want to create a relaxing environment.

Throw out any old newspapers and magazines – I know it’s tempting to keep old magazines and newspapers for a later date, but realistically most people never come back to them. If there’s a particular article you want to keep, take a photo on your phone or tablet and store it there.

Beauty products – always seem to end up on your nightstand. If your like me, before bed I like to apply some lip balm and hand cream to stay moisturized over night. However, It’s so easy for other beauty products to start creeping on to your bedside table. Keep your night time beauty routine to the bathroom, that way all your beauty products stay in there and won’t clutter your space.

Empty water bottle and cups – We all like to take a drink to bed with us, but it’s so easy to leave it there when your finish. Before you know it there’s a stack of cups or empty water bottles. If you want a drink in the night, invest in a reusable water bottle that is just for bed, that way you’ll won’t have a ton of glasses and cups by the side of your bed and you’ll be motivated to clean it out every day.

2. choose essentials

Once everything is removed and you have gotten rid of everything that doesn’t belong in your nightstand. It’s time to think about what you want to keep in it. Remember less is more when it come creating a relaxing organised space. I recommend only putting the essentials on your nightstand that your going to need when you go to bed.

Alarm clock – It goes without saying, most people want an alarm clock beside your bed, especially if you don’t want to keep your phone with you. Sleeping with your phone beside your bed can hinder you from getting a good night sleep. You want to choose an alarm clock with a screen that’s not too bright.

Side lamp – When it comes to lighting, it’s important to think about the amount of light you want. Whether your wanting to read before you go to sleep or to create the right ambience in your bedroom. Another option is to install wall sconces, they are so pretty and will free up space on your bedside table.

Charger – There’s no getting away from it, you’re going to want a charger beside your bed. But that doesn’t mean having a tone of cables everywhere. Whether it’s to charge your phone or tablet, a charging station is a great option. There are some cute charging stations will keep everything looking organised and tidy.

Nightstand drawers – If your night stand has drawers decide on which essentials you want to keep in them. What ever you deicide I recommend getting some drawer dividers and small containers to keep everything in it’s place.

Another tip is to keep a note pad and pen in your drawers, there are so many times when I want to make a note of something before I go to bed, so I keep a notepad in my drawers. If you use your phone to keep notes it’s easy to spiral into searching things on your phone.

3. decorate and style

When it comes to styling to you want to create a relaxing tranquil space. Don’t over do it. Choose a few decorative items that complement your bedroom. Just by adding your favourite photo in a frame or plant in a simple pot is enough to style your bedside table without over doing it.

My final tip is to maintain the space. Once it is organised and styled to your taste, regularly get rid of anything you don’t need, take out your empty cups and wipe down the surfaces. Be consistent, keeping on top of the clutter will help to maintain serene tranquil bedroom.
