How often should you clean your tiles and grout?

Once you have thoroughly cleaned them and got them back to looking like new, you can incorporate cleaning your bathroom or kitchen tiles weekly. Adding them into your weekly cleaning schedule to stay onto of them.

Supplies needed

  • Bicarbonate soda
  • Toothbrush
  • Damp cloth
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar

Step-by-step guide to cleaning

1. mix a paste

The first step is to mix a paste with the bicarbonate soda and some warm water. This has to be toothpaste consistency. The best way is using 2 parts bicarbonate soda and 1 part water.

2. scrub with paste

Using a toothbrush work the paste into the grout. For best results use an electric toothbrush and work in a circular motion, making sure it is completely covered.

3. MIx white vineagar

Next you’ll want to get a spray bottle and fill it with white vinegar and warm water. Spray this on to the grout where the bicarbonate soda and water paste is. It should start fizzing, which is supposed to happen. This is just the vinegar and bicarbonate soda reacting together. Leave this for around 10 minutes.

4. rinse and wipe off

Then rinse off the solutions and go over any stubborn areas with an old toothbrush. Repeat the process if there are any areas of mildew or dirt that weren’t removed the first time.

5. seal grout

Wait until the tiles and grout are completely dry using a microfibre cloth. Then finish by spraying grout sealer to prevent them from getting grimy again. There are a few to choose from but the one I always use is tile and grout sealer. It’s super easy to use and I love that it’s transparent so you can use it on any colour grout. Allow up to 24 hours for it to completely dry before using the shower or bath.
