1. Take out everything
A great way to start is to take everything out, this way you can see what you have to work with. Go through everything and check the use by date. You can then use anything up that is nearing the end and throw away anything out of date.
2. Clean your fridge
Sounds like it’s obvious, but you’ll want to start with a clean fridge and it will be much easier if it’s empty. It will leave your fridge smelling fresh and ready for organising.
3. CATEGORIES your food
Putting your foods into categories will help when your putting your food away and make it easier to see what you have. Put all your fruit in one category, dairy in another and so on. Find what works for you. Do this before you put everything into your fridge, lay everything out and see what you have.
4. Food rotation
When putting your food away I always use a first in, first out rule. Put the new food behind the items that are already in your fridge. This way you can use up anything that is near its expiry date.
5. Lazy Susan Turntable Organiser
A lazy susan is a great way of storing your jars and condiments. It makes it easier to reach anything stored at the back of your fridge. This lazy Susan is a rectangle shape to make the most of the space in your fridge. It pulls put easily and turns 360 degrees.
6. keep most used essentials to the front
Keeping your everyday essentials to the front of your refrigerator will make it easier to grab what you need from day to day. Place fresh fruit and vegetables towards the front, this way they will be used quicker.
7. Decant foods
Decanting your foods and condiments into smaller containers makes it easier to see what you have and keeps it more organised. You’ll know exactly what your inventory is and when you are running out.
8. Drink storage
Storing your cans in a drink dispenser is a great way to keep them all together without taking up too much space. I love how practical this is. Try to keep the put each type of drink together, that way you won’t have to get them all out when you want to a certain type.
9. STACKABLE storage bins
Stackable storage bins are a game changer when organising your fridge. You can put everything in them from dairy products to fruit and veg. They make it so much easier to keep your food organised and optimise your vertical space.
10. label what you need to
Label your food bins for each category. You don’t need to go overboard when you’re labelling your items. I know it can be tempting to label everything, you don’t want to over complicate it. Only label the categories you have.
11. line the draws
Before putting everything into storage bins, line them with kitchen roll, that way it will be easier to keep clean. You can remove the kitchen roll when its time to clean each of the draws and there will be less cleaning.
12. Use your space
Adding additional shelving options can utilise the space you have. If you have limited space this can be a great option. This makes it easier to stack items and easily accessible for cleaning.
13. tempreture matters
I have recently found out that food should be kept at different temperatures in the fridge. Different food groups do better depending on where they are stored in the fridge. The bottom and the back of the fridge are the coolest. The fridge door temperature is the variable.
- Keep meat in the coldest part of the fridge, if possible store meat in it’s own draw to avoid cross contamination.
- Eggs should also be kept where the temperature is the most consistent, preferably in the middle of the fridge.
- Butter can be stored in the refrigerator door as it can withstand temperature changes.
- Cream cheese, yoghurt and cream last better if they are store on the bottom shelf.
- store condiments in the fridge doors, as these are natural preservatives.
14. leftover storage
Store leftovers in sealed containers in one area of your fridge. If you’re short on space you can use wrap to store them. Wrap is a convent way to store fruit, veg and cheese that have been opened.
