This post is all about how to decorate your Christmas tree like a pro
1. Decide On Your Theme
Before you start decorating, the first thing you need to do is decide on a theme. The type of theme you choose will help you to decide which Christmas tree you go for. If you are going all out traditional red and green, you will probably want a green tree. But, if you are thinking winter wonderland, you may want to go for a flocked tree to create that snowy vibe.
2. Choose Your Tree
Now you have a vision of what you want it to look like, you can decide on the type of tree you want. The first thing to consider is, if you are going to opt for a real or artificial tree. There are so many to choose from at local garden centres or tree farms. When choosing your tree consider how much space you have and where it will go. To make your real tree last longer, remember to water it as this will keep it looking fresh.
If you choose an artificial tree look for one that you can use year after year. You might want to choose a prelit tree, these are very on trend, because it’s easy to assemble and you don’t have to worry about spending time untangling the lights. However, if you want to choose your lights to decorate your tree, I recommend you choose an unlit tree.

3. Fluff the Tree Branches
One of my top tips for making your tree looking like it is decorated by a professional is, taking the time to fluff all of the branches on the tree. This is a game changer. Work your way around the tree starting at the bottom and working your way up. Fan the branches to fill the spaces. Once you are finished, take a step back and check that it looks even. You’ll love how full your tree looks.
4. Hang Your Lights
Next, you’ll want to hang the lights on the tree. If you have chosen an unlit tree you’ll want to decide which lights you want. When it comes to Christmas lights you can never have too many!
When you start to place your lights on the tree, plug them in, this way you can see where they are as you go along. Make sure you have plenty of space to be able to get to the back of the tree.
Start at the bottom and work your way up. Use the plug end as a starting point. That way you know it will reach the power supply. Weave your way through the branches going over and under. As you work your way up the tree, remember to stand back and check they are evenly distributed. Nothing worse that having gaps where lights should be. After you have reached the top of the tree you can then work your way back down filling any areas that don’t have lights.

5. Decorate With Baubles
Now my favourite part, adding the baubles. You want to choose a range of sizes, small, medium and large. It helps to keep the Christmas tree to look balanced. Start by adding the larger baubles first. Again working from bottom to the top. As a general rule. larger baubles towards the bottom of the tree and smaller ones at the top.
Another tip for decorating you tree is to add larger baubles towards the middle of the tree as well as on the ends of the branches. This adds more depth to your tree and makes it look fuller. Don’t forget about the back of the tree, Your tree will look fuller if you place some baubles at the back of the tree.

6. Decorate with Special/Favourite Decorations
Once you have your baubles on the tree, I like to add my special ornaments. Place them around your tree in pride of place. This also help to avoid any breakages.
7. Place Ribbons and Bows
Adding ribbon or tinsel really elevates the look of your tree. You can choose either one colour or contrasting colours to make a real statement. If you opt for ribbon I recommend you use one that is wired as you can shaped it how you want to decorate you tree. Before adding you ribbon, cut it into manageable lengths, this will make it easier to manipulate and work around the tree.

8. Place Picks
Depending on the theme you have chosen you may want to add tree picks. There are so many beautiful tree picks to choose from, floral spray, berries and glitter covered twigs.
Add them by sliding them in amongst the branches or placing a bunch of the at the top of your tree by sliding them down. Pro tip, if you’re placing them amongst the branches spend them evenly around the tree and don’t forget the back.

10. Finish with Your Tree Topper
The last step is adding your tree topper. A tree topper can pull the theme of your tree together. When you are choosing your topper consider the colours you have used and the theme of your tree. There are so many to choose from including angels, stars and others that you can personalise.
