delutttering and cleaning outdoors

Clean and store summer items
Towards the end of the summer and the beginning of autumn as the air gets crisp. There are a few outside jobs that need to be tackled to prepare for winter. The first outside job is to clean and put away or cover outside furniture, clean tools and store then safely through the winter.
As you make your way around your garden, check if there are any items such as garden lights or toys that are broken and get rid of them. Believe me next spring, summer you’ll thank yourself for giving your garden a good tidy and declutter.
Another task that’s super important is to trim and cut back hedges and bushes. It just makes your garden look better throughout winter. When I have finished those tasks I like to finish by sweeping up the fallen leaves. There’s something poetic about sweeping up leaves in the fall.
Clean exterior windows and gutters
Before moving indoors, I like to check and clear the gutters, especially as the leaves start to fall, they can get blocked so easily. A blocked gutter can cause water damage to your home, so regularly clearing them is a must. If you feel this job might be a little out of your comfort zone, then there are professionals you can hire to do this job.
Also, don’t forget to give your windows a good clean. Having sparkling clean widows to look through as the evening draw in is so much nicer. Grab a microfiber cloth, white wine vinegar and water. Mix up a solution of 50/50 water to vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Don’t forget to clean the window frames and ledges as you go.

Declutter your home
Before I begin cleaning whether it’s for spring or autumn I like to go through each room in my home and give it a declutter. As life gets busy, it’s easy to through things in drawers, keep things from previous season you no longer need or use. Autumn is a great time to declutter your home before the holiday celebrations begin. I recommend going room by room as it’s more efficient and methodical. I also feel like there’s a snowball effect of being motivated when one room is declutter, it’s easier to move on to the next.

Give you pantry and kitchen a refresh
When I think of autumn, I always think of cooking and baking. Giving my kitchen a deep clean for autumn is always one of those tasks I weirdly look forward too. Going through all the items in my cupboards, and pantry to get rid of anything that has expired makes me feel organized and ready to restock. As I am making my way around the kitchen I go through one cupboard at a time take everything out and give the shelves and drawers a deep clean.
Once you have finished deep cleaning consider storing everything in container. From lazy Susan’s to wicker baskets there is something for all tastes and style. Storing your food this way makes it so much easier the next time you want to give your cupboards a deep clean.
Don’t forget about you fridge or freezer. there’s no better time to give your fridge and freezer a deep clean. As the holidays approach your be so happy knowing everything is in date and you have space to put away your food through the holiday season.
Deep clean floors and carpets
Carpets and floors need so much more attention is the autumn and winter months because of the increase in foot traffic. For this reason, I like to give them a deep clean. For wooden floors I like to vacuum clean first to remove debris and dust, then finish by mopping. To deep clean your rugs and carpets you can use a carpet cleaning machine. If you don’t want to purchase one, there are professionals you can hire or for an affordable option, you can rent carpet cleaning machines that are ideal to get you carpets cleaned.

give cushion covers and throws a wash
Decorating for the seasons is so exciting and fun. Swapping out soft furnishings to match the seasons is an affordable way to give your home a refresh. Before adding throws and cushion covers that have been stored away, I like to give them a clean. Check the care label to see how you can clean them. Some can be thrown in the washing machine, other may need to be handwashed or dry cleaned.

deep clean entryway or hallways
As we begin to move into the colder season, your more likely to have your family and friend come visit you. Especially throughout the holiday seasons. With this in mind get ahead of the game by decluttering and giving you entryway and hallway a deep clean.
Begin by taking everything out. Summer sandals and shoes can be put away for next spring/summer. The same as any coats and jackets that your not going to wear through out autumn/winter. Anything that you feel that you won’t wear again can be donated or sold.
Once everything has been decluttered I like to remove dust or cobwebs from ceilings and light fittings. Also touch up with paint any areas that are showing wear and tear through marks and scuffs. Next, I like to vacuum clean the floor to ensure and dirt and dust is removed before giving it a deep clean with a mop. You truly can’t beat the smell of a freshly mopped floor.
