1. incorporate lighting with mirrors

One of my favourite ways to incorporate lighting into your decorating is to hang a prelite mirror. These are a great way to illuminate your space with ease. There are so many great options that have different light settings for your individual needs.

Having a prelite mirror can be used for multiple purposes, it will produce the right amount of light for you to your daily beauty or grooming routine but also it can create a relaxing environment without having to switch on the main bathroom light.

2. install downlights

Using downlights in the bathroom creates a modern chic design. These are easy to fit and then angle to the position you want the light to the space you wish to illuminate. One of my favourite options when it comes to downlights is to install leds which are colour changing to suit every aesthetic. Smaller lighting fixtures such as downlights creates enough lighting without making your bathroom look cramped.

3. Add a touch of wicker

When planning your bathroom design consider the overall theme of how you want your bathroom to look and feel. Add a wicker pendant or shade to add a warm rustic charm. Complement a natural shade with wooden decorative features, such as wooden shelves or a wicker laundry basket to keep everything cohesive.

4. Choose flushed lights

Semi flushed or flushed lighting are a great addition to every bathroom. The semi flush option sits slightly lower than the flushed option. They take up a small space, making them especially good for small bathrooms. The fittings are attached flush to the ceiling which gives you maximum vertical space. By adding semi or flushed lighting it will create a cute ambience without being too bright.

5. opt for simplicity

You don’t need to over think it when it comes to lighting. A simple globe shade can look sophisticated and elegant. Don’t get me wrong, It’s fun to play with different styles of lighting and shade, but you can’t go wrong with a minimalist look.

Choosing to add a simple glass pendant creates a super paired back design while bringing maximum light without being to bright, which helps if you have a smaller bathroom to look larger.

6. incorporate wall sconces

If modern clean lines are more your style adding sconces either side of a mirror brings balance to your space by creating symmetry. The beautiful gold fittings create an elegant and sophisticated design. Pair this with a gold rim mirror to bring luxury to your bathroom.

7. use pendant lights

One of the easiest ways to make your bathroom look and feel elegant, is to hang pendant lights. When picking out where to place them, try to stick to the odd number rule, (one, three or five). There’s something about having items in odd numbers that draws the eye to keep everything balanced. An exception to this is if you are hanging them either side of a mirror, then you will want to add one either side, to bring symmetry. For larger pendants hang them around your mirror area and for smaller pendants hang them in smaller spaces.

Before you choose which pendant lights to install, there are a few things I recommend thinking about. Firstly, the colour palette you have chosen in your bathroom, metallics such as gold or silver designs give an sophisticate look. Also take into consideration the height you want your going to hang your pendants, as you don’t want it to be in the way every time you want to wash your hands in the sink or brush your teeth. I recommend standing underneath to get the height in the correct position for you.

8. hang a chandelier

If you’re looking for a jaw dropping design for your bathroom, I recommend going all out by adding a chandelier. I know, you would typically find a chandelier in a living room or bedroom, but you’ll be surprised how pretty it can make your bathroom.

A chandelier will definitely bring the wow factor and create an elegant feel. Choose one that brings a modern twist for a minimalist feel or a more contemporary design choose one that features crystal droplets. When picking out your which chandelier, if you have a small bathroom I recommend opting for a smaller sized chandelier. You don’t want it to look too overwhelming in your space.

9. Mix and match

How pretty do these lights look? Get creative and mix and match different lighting to recreate this beautiful design. Sometimes adding different size shades or different pendant heights if done intentionally can create intrigue and charm. Try choosing a colour scheme or light shade shape to be consistent.
