1. choose a neutral colour palette

Choosing a colour palette is so important when it comes to minimalist decorating. When deciding on what colour to paint your living room, I recommend opting for a neutral colour palette. Think soft tones and such as whites, earthy tones and light greys.
If your thinking that whites are too clinical, your can introduce colour accents throughout you living space turning it into a sophisticated retreat. Another option is using grey is add warmth which will give a softer tone.
2. add texture

By introducing textures into your space it will bring warmth and make your living room feel more inviting. Think wool rugs, chunky knit throws, and neutral cushions. Combine different shades and textures, be intentional with the pieces you choose so that it’s not cluttered or overwhelming.
3. play around with lighting

I always think that lighting can make or break the aesthetic of a room. Try to incorporate lighting with clean lines, I love decorating with pendants, wall scones and elegant floor lamps. Smart lighting is a great way to control the the brightness in you room, allowing you to create a cosy atmosphere.
4. make an impact with artwork

When it comes to artwork think about how you would like your space to look and feel. Artwork can be a focal point in the room without making the room look cluttered. One of my favourite ways to add a touch of colour to a room and still keeping it minimalistic, is to add an abstract art pieces. Another great option is to add a monochrome gallery wall.
5. open plan design

If you have an open floor plan you’re space is ideal for minimalist design. It brings natural light and the feeling of balance throughout your home. To keep a natural flow keep to the same colour palettes and use the same tones when it comes to textiles.
6. soft toned curtains

When thinking about curtains, choose once that embrace the natural light by using sheer curtains or neutral coloured blinds. I love how they bring a light and airy feel. If you feel that they are too sheer, linen curtains are a great alternative, and you’ll still being able to keep your privacy.
7. add sleek furniture

When it comes picking out furniture I think clean lines and geometric shapes look effortless and chic. By adding furniture pieces that are geometric shaped or choosing a statement chair, it will create intrigue and keep your living room looking elegant.
8. bring the outside in

Wanting to add texture and life into you living your without being too crowded? Choose a couple of selected plants and keep them in pots or containers that have a neutral colour tone. Plants can bring touches of colour and texture to your room, whilst still remaining minimalistic.
9. Add hidden storage

One key principal to consider when it comes to a minimalistic design keeping it clutter free. To keep your living room clutter free pick out furniture that allows you to store your belongings and keeping them out of sight. This makes your space look aesthetically pleasing.
10. introduce an accent wall

If your looking for a different approach to your decorating whist still keeping it minimalistic, you can add a bold feature wall. I know when you think of minimalistic spaces you naturally think of white walls, but you don’t have to. By adding a bold accent wall it will create a focal point in your room, but at the same time keep the rest of the decor simple and understated.
11. incorporate a fireplace

A modern fireplace adds a focal point to your living room. Stay away from ornate or vintage designs and opt for sleek lines and geometric shapes.
12. add pops of colour

Whilst most minimalist spaces incorporate a neutral colour palette and cool tones. As long as you don’t add too much, a few pops of colour can go along way to bring personality to your space. If you’re thinking of adding some colour, consider using a couple of colourful cushions or a throw. Another way is to hang a statement piece of artwork.
13. coastal decor

You can incorporate coastal decor into your living space by picking out small elements that have hints of beach life. By combining minimalist and coastal, I recommend using white walls, light and airy curtains and a few key pieces such as an ocean view painting or driftwood shelves. You don’t need to go overboard with this theme, a little goes a long way!
14. hang a mirror

Mirrors are so important when it comes to decorating. Adding a large mirror, when places correctly can reflect light from the outside. This creates the illusion of of a large space and gives the room a light and airy feel.
