It’s really personal choice how you want to design your mudroom, but there are a few essential items I recommend. Firstly, A place to hang and store coats is a great idea, you don’t want to wear wet rain coats throughout your home.

Next you should have somewhere to store your boots and shoes, as taking these off in the mudroom is the number one purpose of a mudroom.

Finally, I recommend having some seating to make it easier to take off footwear. After that what you choose to add to your mudroom will depend on the size of your space and how you would like to use it to maximise its potential.

In general mudrooms are small spaces, so it’s important to make the most of this space. By adding storage boxes it can look aesthetically pleasing and at the same time a practical storage solution. That’s definitely a win win!

One of my favourite reasons to have a mudroom is having a dedicated space to store your footwear. If you have a bench with space underneath you can put some baskets to put shoes in or a built in shoe rack is another great option

3. Use wall mounted hooks

It seems kind of obvious, but something you might overlook. When you are designing your mudroom, don’t forget to add some wall hooks to hang coat, scarfs and jackets. You can choose some decorative hooks that will elevate the look of your room. Making them decorative and functional.

4. get creative with flooring

When it comes to flooring think about the amount of traffic that it’s going to get. It’s probably going to get the most traffic in the house. Choose flooring that’s durable and easy to clean.
