Choose a colour palette
I know from experience when designing an area of my home, it’s always a struggle knowing where to start, I recommend beginning with choosing a colour scheme. Then you have a base to build upon. For farmhouse design style, I love a musted colour palette. Bright whites or soft beiges, transform your space into a serene space.
incorporate your kitchen cabinets

I know it can be pricy to completely renovate your kitchen, but there are a few things you can do to achieve the farmhouse look on a budget. Wooden or distressed cabinets can transform your kitchen to a warm rustic charm. Achieving a distressed look doesn’t have mean you change your cabinets, you can paint them to create the look. With white chalk paint, paint your cabinets, then sand down the edges to complete the distressed finished. To prolong the life of your cabinets use a clear paint wax. One of the easiest ways to bring the farmhouse style is to paint your cabinets. Using whites or soft greys can easily give your space a farmhouse feel.
Another great way to upgrade your cabinets is to swap out kitchen hardware. Brass knows or black iron works really well. Changing your hardware is a cost affective way to bring a new look to your kitchen.
decorate with wooden and wicker touches
Whether its a wooden chopping board or a fruit bowl, sprinkling wooden accents throughout your kitchen add to the rustic charm. Combine this with wicker baskets to achieve the look. I love incorporating wicker baskets into my decorating, not only do they look good, but they are so practical. From storing paper towels to keeping kitchen utensils in, you’ll always find a use for them.
add a farmhouse sink

You can’t go wrong with a farmhouse sink, this is a classic feature in any farmhouse kitchen. By installing a apron or farmhouse sink it creates a statement centrepiece in your kitchen. Where you opt for a timeless white or stainless steel, it will definitely be a talking point with your guests.
butcher block counter tops
One of my favourite ways to incorporate farmhouse design style into a kitchen is by installing butcher block countertops. They naturally bring warmth and texture. Whether you are opting for a traditional farmhouse style or something a little more modern, a butchers block countertop is so versatile.
If your concerned about maintaining it, don’t be. Simply wipe down with a damp cloth to remove any crumbs or spillages. To clean it, using washing up liquid and water lightly wipe it going with the grain. Then to prevent it from being damaged by the water, dry thoroughly with a paper towel. To oil your butcher block counter top simply apply a coat of mineral oil to stop it from drying out, once every other week.
rustic pendant lights
Choosing your lighting is so important when designing any space in your home as it helps to create the ambience and your eye will naturally be drawn to to different parts of your kitchen. Adding rustic pendant lights can bring texture and depth to your room. I love the way antique or distressed lights bring an authentic feel to any space.
hang a pot rack

There’s something about a hanging pot rack that just makes a kitchen seem more inviting and cosy. It always makes a home feel more lived in. If you have a kitchen island this is a great place to hang a pot rack. They are not only decorative but also functional.
embrace wooden flooring
A staple in a farmhouse kitchen is a wooden floor. You don’t have to spend a fortune to achieve this look. There are so many affordable option for wooden flooring to choose from, that are easy to install. When deciding on which flooring to go for I would go for one that’s durable, hard wearing and easy to clean as the kitchen is a high traffic area.
copper or cast iron kitchenware

Looking for a practical and functional way to bring the farmhouse feel to your kitchen? Invest in some copper or cast iron kitchenware. Pots and pans look rustic and are perfect when displayed on either open shelving or a pot rack.
vintage style rugs
A vintage rug can instantly bring colour and a cosy ambience to your space, especially if you have wooden or stone flooring. By laying a rug you can combine rustic charm with a functional purpose. A rug can help soften the overall design of your space. When choosing one, look for one that is durable and can be cleaned easily, the kitchen probably has the most traffic in your home.
I love how a vintage rug ties everything together and elevates the look of a room. As your laying a rug in the kitchen I recommend using a non slip grip to stop it from moving around in your kitchen.
farmhouse signs
Decorating your kitchen with farmhouse signs is a great way to add some charm and show your personality. Look out for signs with quotes that will make your kitchen seem more inviting. I love scouring charity shops or Etsy to find signs as these have a more authentic feel. When hanging signs or artwork hang them over doorways or in small spaces to create intrigue and charm.
Store in mason jars

One of the best ways to store pantry ingredients is in mason jars. They look so good filled with baking goods, nuts and seeds. I love how easy it is to see what’s in each jar while also making your kitchen look pretty. You could go the extra mile and make some labels and attach them by tying twine around the rim of the jar.
Wooden range hood
Adding a stylish and functional range hood creates a focal point to any kitchen. You’ll love how this ties everything together and enhances the farmhouse look.
embrace wooden beams

Wooden beams are timeless and classic when it comes to farmhouse decorating. They add natural intrigue and charm. For a contrasting look you could paint your walls white, this really males your kitchen pop.
